MINUTES OF THE PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD

STUDY SESSION

Held in the City of Mesa Council Chamber (Lower Level)

March 24, 2009 at 7:30 a.m.

Chairperson Esparza declared a quorum present and the meeting was called to order at 7:30 a.m.

1. Review items on the agenda for the March 25, 2009 regular Planning & Zoning hearing.

The items on the March 25, 2009, agenda were discussed. No formal action was taken.

Planning Director John Wesley asked the Board if they would object to adding an item to the Wednesday, March 25, 2009 agenda. The item would be a presentation by Gordon Sheffield regarding the Zoning Code Update including Module 3. The Board agreed to add the item to the agenda.

2. Planning Director’s Updates:

a. Update regarding Z09-02 (District 3) 2051 South Dobson Road, Suite 7. Council Use Permit for a tattoo parlor. Mr. Wesley explained that the City Council had voted 6 – 1 to deny the Council Use Permit. He stated they also discussed possible changes to the criteria for Council Use Permits.

b. Update regarding Z08-60 (District 6) 6428 East Test Drive. Modification of an existing Ordinance and Site Plan Review to allow development of an automobile dealership. Planning Director John Wesley stated this case had gone to Council and was basically on hold while the applicant tries to work with the adjacent neighbors. He stated there had been a vote of the homeowners a few weeks ago and they were still opposed.

3. Minutes – submit any corrections, additions, deletions.

None.
