MINUTES OF THE PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD

STUDY SESSION

Held in the City of Mesa Council Chamber (Lower Level)

October 16, 2008 at 7:30 a.m.

Chairperson Esparza declared a quorum present and the meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m.

1. Review items on the agenda for the October 16, 2008 regular Planning & Zoning hearing.

The items on the October 16, 2008, agenda were discussed. No formal action was taken.

2. Update 2009 calendar for the Planning & Zoning Board Hearing Dates.

There was a consensus to accept the revised P&Z Board hearing dates for 2009.

3. Planning Director’s Updates:

a. Update on consideration of the Community Plan for DMB.

John Wesley, Planning Director, stated that there are continued discussions with Council on language for the Community Plan; adding that there are changes to the ordinance, which will be re-introduced on October 20, 2008 with action taken on November 3, 2008.

b. Progress on Zoning Code update.

Mr. Wesley and Gordon Sheffield, Zoning Administrator, gave an update on the Zoning Code stating that there are two topics left to finish up Module 2, and that staff has received Module 3, which is being reviewed. He noted that meetings will be scheduled with various Boards and City Council for their input. Discussion ensued regarding notification to the public.

Mr. Wesley reminded the Board of the upcoming special Joint City Council/Planning & Zoning Board Meeting regarding the Mesa Gateway Strategic Development Plan on Thursday, October 23, 2008 @ 7:30 a.m.

The meeting adjourned at 3:45 p.m.
