LOCAL PENSION BOARD MEETING – FIRE/POLICE
JULY 30, 2009
A meeting of the Public Safety Local Fire and Police Pension Boards of Mesa, Arizona, was held in Conference Room 870, 20 E. Main, 8th Floor, on July 30, 2009 at 2:04 p.m.

1. Approval of the minutes of the Public Safety Local Fire and Police Pension Boards meeting of June 18, 2009.
It was moved by Boardmember Kazmaier, seconded by Boardmember Perkins, that the minutes of the Public Safety Local Fire and Police Pension Boards meeting of June 18, 2009 be approved.
Chairman Whalen declared the motion carried unanimously by those present.
FIRE PENSION BOARD
2. Discuss and consider the DROP application of Firefighter Ty Perkins.
Boardmember Perkins declared a potential conflict of interest and refrained from discussion/participation on this agenda item.
Due to a lack of quorum, this item will be voted on at the August 20, 2009 Local Board meeting.
3. Discuss and consider the DROP application of Fire Engineer Dan Ott.
It was moved by Boardmember Cluff, seconded by Boardmember Perkins, that the DROP application of Fire Engineer Dan Ott be approved.
Chairman Whalen declared the motion carried unanimously by those present.
Without objection, the meeting of the Local Fire Pension Board adjourned at 2:06 p.m.
POLICE PENSION BOARD
4. Discuss and consider the DROP application of Police Helicopter Pilot Harold Salem.
It was moved by Boardmember Smith, seconded by Boardmember Kazmaier, that the DROP application of Police Helicopter Pilot Harold Salem be approved.
Chairman Whalen declared the motion carried unanimously by those present.
5. Discuss and consider the Accidental Disability Retirement application of Police Officer Marshall Hermeston.
Chairman Whalen welcomed Police Officer Marshall Hermeston to the meeting. Chairman Whalen advised Officer Hermeston that the members of the Local Board have reviewed his application and medical records. Chairman Whalen outlined the process that would be followed by the Board and encouraged the members to pose any questions they may have regarding Officer Hermeston’s pending Accidental Disability application.
Chairman Whalen stated that in view of the absence of questions from the Board, he would entertain a motion relative to this case.
It was moved by Boardmember Kazmaier, seconded by Boardmember Smith, that the Accidental Disability Retirement application of Police Officer Marshall Hermeston be approved, based on the fact that Officer Hermeston has a mental condition which totally and permanently prevents him from performing a reasonable range of duties within his job classification of Police Officer and which was incurred during the performance of his duties.
Chairman Whalen declared the motion carried unanimously by those present.
6. Discuss and consider the Accidental Disability Retirement application of Police Officer Sean Truelove.
Chairman Whalen welcomed Police Officer Sean Truelove to the meeting. Chairman Whalen advised Officer Truelove that the members of the Local Board have reviewed his application and medical records. Chairman Whalen outlined the process that would be followed by the Board and encouraged the members to pose any questions they may have regarding Officer Truelove’s pending Accidental Disability application.

(The Board recessed at 2:12 p.m. in order to convene an Executive Session and reconvened the Public Safety Local Police Pension Board meeting at 2:15 p.m.)
7. Discuss and consider treatment of medical evidence from external sources.
This item is continued to the August 20, 2009 Local Board meeting.
8. Adjournment.
Without objection, the meeting of the Local Police Pension Board adjourned at 2:20 a.m.
