6. Discuss and consider the Accidental Disability Retirement application of Police Sergeant Audrey Glemba.
Boardmember Smith declared a potential conflict of interest and refrained from discussion/participation on this agenda item.
Chairman Whalen welcomed Police Sergeant Audrey Glemba to the meeting. Chairman Whalen advised Sergeant Glemba that the Local Board has reviewed the independent medical evaluation of Dr. Joseph Gimbel and noted that Dr. Gimbel is in agreement with the findings of Sergeant Glemba’s attending physician.
In response to questions posed by Boardmember Kazmaier, Sergeant Glemba indicated that she was seeking employment that could accommodate her disability. Boardmember Kazmaier requested that the record reflect that Sergeant Glemba was seeking employment in the same field for which she was seeking an Accidental Disability retirement.
Chairman Whalen stated the opinion that Dr. Gimbel's report supports Sergeant Glemba’s application for an Accidental Disability Retirement and that, in view of the absence of questions from the Board, he would entertain a motion relative to this case.
It was moved by Boardmember Kazmaier, seconded by Boardmember Pace, that the Accidental Disability Retirement application of Police Sergeant Audrey Glemba be approved, based on the fact that Sergeant Glemba has a physical condition which totally and permanently prevents her from performing a reasonable range of duties within her job classification of Police Sergeant and which was incurred during the performance of her duties.
Chairman Whalen declared the motion carried unanimously by those voting.
7. Adjournment.
Without objection, the meeting of the Local Police Pension Board adjourned at 11:31 a.m.
I hereby certify that the foregoing minutes are a true and correct copy of the minutes of the Public Safety Local Fire and Police Pension Boards meeting of Mesa, Arizona, held on the 29th day of January 2009. I further certify that the meeting was duly called and held and that a quorum was present.
