    1. Welcome and Introductions.

    Chair welcomed board members, staff, and guests.

    2. Resubmit the minutes from the October 22, 2008 board meeting.

    Resubmitted minutes were approved unanimously.

    3. Approval of minutes from the January 28, 2009 board meeting.

    Minutes were approved unanimously.

    4. Items from Citizens Present. *

    No items from citizens present.

    5. Discussion Items/Action Items:

      • Hear an update, discuss, and take action on items presented by the:

        • Ad Hoc Community of Education Project Team

        o Give a report on educating Mesa residents of the many hidden communities within the city limits.

          A report was given; the team will continue to move forward on this item.

        o Give a report on the recommendations on the Domestic Partner Registry proposal.

          A report was given; the team will continue to researching this item and recommended an agenda item be added to the Regional Human Relations Commission meeting.

        • Ad Hoc Marketing Strategies Project Team

        o Give a report on marketing hidden communities.

          A report was given; the two project teams (Marketing Strategies and the Community of Education) will partner together on this item.

        • Ad Hoc Committee on Disabilities

        o Give a report on presentations by the Veteran’s Administration, Military veterans, and members of the aging communities.

          A report was given; a presentation by the team is being planned for a future meeting.

      • Hear an update and discuss the presentation on Open Meeting Laws, by Mesa City Attorney, Debbie Spinner.

      The board was updated on Open Meeting Laws.

    6. Mesa Police Department Report – Community Partnership Coordinator, Denise Traves.

      • Hear an update on the Roundtable meeting with Chief Gascón.

      The board was updated on the Chief’s roundtable meeting.

      • Hear an update of crime activity within Mesa.

      The board was updated on a suspicious fire that occurred in Mesa.

      • Hear an update from the Chief’s Community Forums.

      The board was updated on the forum’s meeting schedules and events being planned for 2009.

      • Hear an update on upcoming presentations and conferences:

        • Domestic Violence presentation, March 24, 2009.

        The board was given information regarding this upcoming presentation.

        • East Valley Summit, April 4, 2009

        The board was given information regarding this upcoming presentation.

    7. Diversity Officer’s Report:

      • Hear an update on the Unity Walk held February 7, 2009.

      The board was updated on the success of this year’s Unity Walk.

      • Hear an update on the upcoming Regional Human Relations Committee meeting.

      The board was updated on the date, time, and location of the next Regional meeting.

    8. Report on conferences and/or meeting attended.

    Reports were given of conferences board members have attended.

    9. Scheduling of meetings, future agenda items, and general information.

      • The board was informed of future Diversity Leadership Alliance.

      • The board was informed of upcoming community events that the Chief’s Community Forums will be involved in.

      • The board will add an action item to next month’s agenda that will address a summer schedule.

    10. Adjourn

The next regular meeting is on March 25, 2009, at 6:00 p.m.
