1. Welcome and Introductions.
Chair welcomed board members, staff, and guests.
2. Approval of minutes from the October 22, 2008 board meeting.
3. Approval of minutes from the November 19, 2008 regional Human Relations Advisory Boards and Commissions meeting.
4. Items from Citizens Present.*
Mesa citizen Denise Heap, chair of the East Valley Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer’s (LGBTQ’s) for Change organization; spoke briefly to the board.
5. Discussion Items/Action Items
a. Hear an update, discuss and take action on participating in the Unity Walk event February 7, 2009.
The board took action to participate in the Unity Walk.
b. Hear an update, discuss, and take action on items presented by the:
§ Ad Hoc Community and Education Project Team
The project team will add agenda item to next month’s meeting that addresses marketing emerging Mesa communities.
§ Ad Hoc Marketing Strategies Project Team
§ Committee on Disabilities
6. Mesa Police Department Report – Community Partnership Coordinator, Denise Traves
a. Hear an update, discuss, and take action on items presented by Mesa Police Department’s, Denise Traves.
The board was updated on items concerning the Mesa Police Department.
b. Hear an update, discuss, and take action on items presented at the Police Chief’s Community Forum.
The board was updated on the Police Chief’s community forums.
7. Diversity Officer’s Report
a. Hear an update, discuss and take action on the Veterans Employment & Training.
The board was updated on the Veterans Employment & Training changes that have affected the City of Mesa
b. Hear an update, discuss and take action on the Washington Park Activity Center area.
The board was updated on the Washington Park Activity Center area
c. Hear an update, discuss and take action on the Building Strong Neighborhood (BSN) events and activities.
The board was updated on the Building Strong Neighborhood events and activities.
8. Report on conferences and/or meetings attended.
9. Scheduling of meetings, future agenda items, and general information.
The board was informed of the City of Mesa’s 4x10 work week schedule.
The board requested that all agenda items that were discussed at this meeting be placed on the February agenda for discussion and action.
The board was informed of future conferences.

The next regular meeting is on February 25, 2009, at 6:00 p.m.
