    COUNCIL MINUTES

    March 2, 2009

    The City Council of the City of Mesa met in a Study Session in the lower level meeting room of the Council Chambers, 57 East 1st Street, on March 2, 2009 at 5:16 p.m.

    Mayor Smith excused Councilmember Richins from the entire meeting, and he extended congratulations on behalf of the Council to Councilmember Richins and his wife on the birth of a daughter.

    1. Review items on the agenda for the March 2, 2009 Regular Council meeting.

    All of the items on the agenda were reviewed among Council and staff and the following was noted:

    Conflicts declared: None

    Items added to the consent agenda: None

    Items removed from the consent agenda: None

    2. Acknowledge receipt of minutes of various boards and committees.

    a. Museum and Cultural Advisory Board meeting held December 10, 2008

    b. Community & Neighborhood Services Committee meeting held January 29, 2009

    c. Intergovernmental Affairs Committee meeting held February 9, 2009

    d. Downtown Development committee meeting held December 18, 2008

    It was moved by Councilmember Somers, seconded by Vice Mayor Jones, that the above-referenced minutes be acknowledged.

    Mayor Smith declared the motion carried unanimously by those present.

    3. Hear reports on meetings and/or conferences attended.

      Councilmember Kavanaugh: Recognition event for Mesa Community College’s Rose Garden volunteers.

      Councilmember Somers: Building Strong Neighborhoods Initiative event in which 200 volunteers participated.

      Councilmember Higgins: Ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Doctor’s Choice Assisted Living facility.

      Mayor Smith: 700 volunteers contributed to the success of the Top 2 Bottom Event in District 1.

      Mayor Smith expressed appreciation for the large number of citizens who have volunteered to participate in numerous community projects this year.

    4. Scheduling of meetings and general information.

    City Manager Christopher Brady stated that the meeting schedule is as follows:

    Thursday, March 5, 2009, 7:30 a.m. – City Council Study Session

    Thursday, March 5, 2009, 6:30 p.m. – District 6 Building Strong Neighborhoods Meeting

    Monday, March 9, 2009, 8:00 a.m. – Mesa Prayer Breakfast

5. Adjournment.

    Without objection, the Study Session adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
