COUNCIL MINUTES
January 11, 2010
The City Council of the City of Mesa met in a Study Session in the lower level meeting room of the Council Chambers, 57 East 1st Street, on January 11, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.

Mayor Smith excused Councilmember Finter from the entire meeting.
1. Review items on the agenda for the January 11, 2010 Regular Council Meeting.
All of the items on the agenda were reviewed among Council and staff and the following was noted:
Conflicts of interest declared: None
Items added to the consent agenda: 3b (Item continued to February 8, 2010 Council Meeting)
Items removed from the consent agenda: None
2. Acknowledge receipt of minutes of various boards and committees.
a. Economic Development Advisory Board meeting held December 1, 2009
b. Community & Neighborhood Services Committee meeting held December 17, 2009
It was moved by Councilmember Richins, seconded by Vice Mayor Jones, that the above-listed minutes be acknowledged.
Mayor Smith declared the motion carried unanimously by those present.
3. Hear reports on meetings and/or conferences attended.
Councilmember Kavanaugh: National League of Cities Board of Directors meeting.
Councilmember Higgins: Rehab Arizona Grand Opening.
Councilmember Somers: East Valley Partnership Board of Directors meeting.
Mayor Smith: Attended the Arizona House of Representatives on the first day of the 2010 Regular Session and was present for Governor Brewer’s “State of the State” address.
4. Scheduling of meetings and general information.
Thursday, January 14, 2010, 7:30 a.m. – Study Session
Thursday, January 14, 2010, TBA, General & Economic Development Committee
Monday, January 18, 2010, 7:00 a.m. – MLK Breakfast, Mesa Marriott
Monday, January 18, 2010, 11:00 a.m. – MLK Parade
5. Convene an Executive Session.
It was moved by Vice Mayor Jones, seconded by Councilmember Somers, that the Council adjourn the Study Session at 5:10 p.m. and enter into an Executive Session.
a. Discussion or consultation with the City Attorney in order to consider the City’s position and instruct the City Attorney regarding the City’s position regarding contracts that are the subject of negotiations, in pending or contemplated litigation or in settlement discussions conducted in order to avoid or resolve litigation. (A.R.S. §38-431.03A(4))

6. Adjournment.
Without objection, the Executive Session adjourned at 5:32 p.m.
