COUNCIL MINUTES

December 7, 2009

The City Council of the City of Mesa met in a Study Session in the lower level meeting room of the Council Chambers, 57 East 1st Street, on December 7, 2009 at 5:00 p.m.

(Items were discussed out of order, but for purposes of clarity will remain as listed on the agenda.)

1. Convene an Executive Session.

It was moved by Vice Mayor Jones, seconded by Councilmember Somers, that the Council adjourn the Study Session at 5:08 p.m. and enter into an Executive Session.

    a. Discussion or consultation with the City Attorney in order to consider the City’s position and instruct the City Attorney regarding the City’s position regarding contracts that are the subject of negotiations, in pending or contemplated litigation or in settlement discussions conducted in order to avoid or resolve litigation.

      (A.R.S. §38-431.03A (4))

      1. Reclaimed water supply agreement for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station.

Without objection, the Executive Session adjourned at 5:25 p.m.

2. Review items on the agenda for the December 7, 2009 Regular Council Meeting.

All of the items on the agenda were reviewed among Council and staff and the following was noted:

Conflicts of interest declared: None

Items added to the consent agenda: None

Items removed from the consent agenda: None

3. Hear reports on meetings and/or conferences attended.

Vice Mayor Jones: Service project at Guerrero Rotary Park

    Councilmember Higgins: Attended a presentation of “Meet Me In St. Louis” at Broadway Palms Theater

    Councilmember Kavanaugh: District 2 Pancake Breakfast and Toy Drive; Marlborough Mesa Annual Toy Drive

    Councilmember Somers stated that today was his 18th wedding anniversary. He noted that he was wearing a bowtie that was made by his late mother-in-law to commemorate his first Christmas as a member of her family. He presented similar bowties to his fellow Councilmembers and City Manager Brady that were made by his wife.

4. Scheduling of meetings and general information.

    City Manager Christopher Brady stated that the meeting schedule is as follows:

    Tuesday, December 8, 2009, 10:00 a.m. – CMC Steel Grand Opening

    Tuesday, December 8, 2009, 6:00 p.m. – Joint Meeting with the Town of Gilbert

    Thursday, December 10, 2009, 7:30 a.m. – Study Session

Mr. Brady also advised that on Saturday, December 5th, the City successfully completed a household appliances recycling event wherein more than 400 cars dropped off items.

    Mr. Brady, in addition, extended his condolences to Police Chief Vicki Myers whose mother recently passed away.

5. Adjournment.

Without objection, the Study Session adjourned at 5:08 p.m.
