1. Take action on a resolution authorizing approval to open the Housing Choice Voucher waiting list – Resolution No. HGB08-5.

Housing and Revitalization Director Carolyn Olson advised that adoption of the resolution would enable the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list to be opened on January 7, 2009 at 7:30 a.m.

It was moved by Vice Chairman Jones, seconded by Boardmember Kavanaugh, that Resolution No. HGB08-5 be adopted.

Mr. Egan complimented Ms. Olson for her efforts to ensure that the list is up to date, and he expressed support for adoption of the resolution.

Mayor Smith, on behalf of the Board, also expressed appreciation for her efforts.

In response to a question from Vice Chairman Jones, Ms. Olson advised that public notice of the waiting list and procedures are accomplished by publishing the information in majority and minority newspapers, conducting outreach efforts at numerous public events, posting the information on the City’s website, and including the information on the telephone recording for calls that are placed to their office. She noted that “word of mouth” is usually the most effective means of communicating this type of information.

Mayor Smith called for the vote.

Carried unanimously.

2. Adjournment.

Without objection, the Mesa Housing Authority Governing Board meeting adjourned at 7:34 a.m.
