The City Council of the City of Mesa met in a Study Session in the lower level meeting room of the Council Chambers, 57 East 1st Street, on August 24, 2009 at 5:15 p.m.

1. Review items on the agenda for the August 24, 2009 Regular Council meeting.
All of the items on the agenda were reviewed among Council and staff and the following was noted:
Conflicts of interest: None
Items added to the consent agenda: None
Items removed from the consent agenda: None
2. Appointments to boards and committees.
Mayor Smith recommended the following appointments to boards and committees:
DESIGN REVIEW BOARD
Dan Maldonado – Term Expires June 30, 2012
LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
Cameron Behning – Term Expires June 30, 2011
MUSEUM & CULTURAL ADVISORY BOARD
Victor Linoff – Term Expires June 30, 2012
Vincent DiBella – Term Expires June 30, 2012
Robbi Venditti – Term Expires June 30, 2011
It was moved by Vice Mayor Jones, seconded by Councilmember Somers, that the Council concur with the Mayor’s recommendations and the appointments be confirmed.
Carried unanimously.
3. Hear reports on meetings and/or conferences attended.
Vice Mayor Jones: National League of Cities’ Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee meeting
Councilmember Higgins: Swimming lessons event sponsored by Hubbard Pools, Carl’s Junior and Southwest Ambulance
4. Scheduling of meetings and general information.
City Manager Christopher Brady stated that the meeting schedule is as follows:
Thursday, August 27, 2009, 7:30 a.m. – Study Session
Thursday, August 27, 2009, 9:00 a.m. – Community & Neighborhood Services Committee
Monday, August 31, 2009, TBA – Study Session
Monday, August 31, 2009, 5:45 p.m. – Regular Council Meeting
Thursday, September 3, 2009 – Study Session - CANCELLED
5. Prescheduled public opinion appearance.
a. Hear from Rachel Johnson regarding red light cameras.
Ms. Johnson did not appear at the Study Session.
6. Adjournment.
Without objection, the Study Session adjourned at 5:21 p.m.
